We now have the proof to support the theory (and sore backs): we have a big and healthy and rapidly growing boy!
AJ and I went in for his 18 month appointment today. First off, he had to run around the waiting room picking up every copy of parenting and new baby magazine and declare ‘BABY!’ and then show every other person sitting in the waiting room that yes, he did in fact hold a photo of a baby in his hand in case there was any confusion in the matter.
When we met with our doctor she was very pleased with his progress. She asked if he knew 10 words and then paused and said, “Actually, I think I’ve already heard him say more than that in the past 5 minutes.” Correct. We agreed he knew far more than 20 words. I actually have no idea how many words he knows. He keeps saying new ones that we didn’t know he knew all the time.
Side bar: one of his newest words is “Obama”. Since his daycare is in a Federal building (USDA Forest Service building to be specific) there are photos of Obama by the entrance. He was pointing at it one day and I told him that was Obama and he started saying “Oh-Baama”. Mike wondered if he actually recognizes Obama or if he just knew the one photo. AJ very helpfully answered that question this morning on the drive to the doctors when he pointed at the Obama bumper sticker on the car in front of us and loudly proclaimed “Oh-Baama!!” He is a DC baby to be sure.
Anyway, the Doc says he’s developmentally on track or perhaps even slightly ahead of track. He certainly runs around as if he’s always on a track. Action Jackson Go Go Go!!
Physical stats (and let’s all give a shout-out here to the Scandinavian genes and their super-growth powers):
head 49.5 cm = 90%
height 34 inches = 90%
weight 26 lbs 15 oz = 65%
