Yes, it’s true: we have reached the point where our baby boy is now a big school aged kid!
Jackson started this morning in Ms. Sissler’s class (along with 27 other kids) in the neighborhood school, Lake Harriet Lower, conveniently located two blocks away. Minneapolis switched to full day kindergarten this year, so he’s there from 9:40 to 4:00 each day and he will also be at RecPlus at the Minneapolis parks before and afterwards. Busy busy boy I tells ya. Whew.
Fortunately, he’s been really pumped about going to school and has only had a few moments of nervousness. Or, as he put it: “Mama, I’m only this nervous,” as he held up his hand showing just a little space between his thumb and his first finger. He told me he was sad to leave his old school yesterday, but he was really ready to start the new one. Fortunately, one of his bestest buddies from his old school, Hank, is in his class and there are other kids he knows in other classes which also helps. It also turns out that two other members of my South High swim team also have kids in the same class. Never underestimate the power of chlorine!
We are excited for a fun and busy year full of learning.
