I know I am the boy’s mother, and now that I don’t go to work, I spend a lot of time looking at him and thinking about him and being with him. So yes, objectivity left a long time ago, probably ran off with ‘good night sleep’ and ‘Mike and Kirsten alone time’ to be replaced with ‘baby crap strewn about your abode’, ‘flying poop’ and ‘bet you didn’t know I was going to start peeing just then’. Still, I never cease to be amazed at the rapid pace at which he’s picking up new skills. Like smiling, knowing our voices, holding onto toys etc. Not that any of these things are particularly difficult for those of us who have had so many trips around the sun, but like my friend Linda said “it’s not what they can do, it’s the delta from what they did before’.
One of the cute things Jackson currently does is ‘talk’. He makes all sorts of funny noises in fact, and new ones come out of his mouth every day. One of my favorites is when I say ‘hi’ to him and he makes a sound that rather sounds like ‘hi’ back. But judge for yourself: I was filming him smiling on Friday and he clearly made the ‘hi’ sound. I think it’s pretty awesome. So awesome in fact that I dreamed that nite that he woke up completely able to speak and communicate complex things the next day. I said ‘wow, that was really fast, you’re only 7 weeks’ and he said ‘yes well I just needed enough time to understand the whole language thing but I’ve got it now’ and then he proceeded to tell me that I always put on the swaddle too tight and could I stop doing that, I was literally and figuratively cramping his style.
But I digress. Please enjoy the Jackson film.Jackson smiles and says hi.
