May Madness whereby Action Jackson visits 3 cities and is loved by all

As you probably have noticed, we haven’t posted anything for awhile. There’s a good explanation for this: May kicked our asses.

From May 4 to May 16th, I was in NYC for the 17th meeting of the UN Commission on Sustainable Development: my first time away from the boy. And yes, it was hard, but fortunately Mike sent me daily photos which helped to keep me going as I sat in the basement of the UN building. Good times. During that time Mike played single dad for the first week. Over the weekend, the boys took the train up to visit me in NYC which also happened to be Mother’s Day. Highlights include me getting a beautiful necklace from AJ on mother’s day and seeing AJ’s face the first time he saw the New York City skyline. He has an expression we call ‘awesome face’ where he drops his jaw and opens his eyes and if he could talk he’d say ‘awwwesome!!!’ This face has been reserved for when we hold him upside down or he is lifted above our heads like an airplane. Alternate views of reality I guess you could say. But this time, he was upright and it was all the city, which I suppose in its own way is also an alternative view of reality. I think it’s fair to say that for a brief moment, we blew his baby mind.

The second week it turned out Mike had to give a presentation in Minneapolis, so the boys spent the week staying with my parents where they got to see grandparents, his one remaining great-grandparent, great-grandma Pearl, aunts, uncles, cousins, great-aunts, great-uncles, friends, neighbors and anyone who happened to pass by. What can we say? We’re a friendly folk!

Upon my return to DC on Saturday the 16th, Mike and I had 23 hrs together… at which point he flew to Florida on the 17th. I was in DC for a week with the boy where I played single mom most of the week (Mike was in town Tues nite through Wed nite, at which point he left again, this time for Ohio).

On Saturday the 23rd we all got back on a plane and flew to Chicago where we visited Kathy, Nathan and cousin Henry. Highlights included going to the zoo, seeing our friend Meg, a BBQ on Memorial day and Cousin Bath!

On Tuesday the 26th, Mike and AJ flew back to DC, and I went out to a, um, charming ‘vintage’ – read moldy and frightening – hotel/golf course built in the 50s for a meeting. I flew back to DC on the nite of the 28th. Pretty much we’ve all been drooling masses of exhausted protoplasm since then. Correction, Mike and I have been drooling masses of protoplasm, AJ keeps on going like the energizer bunny. Ah the joys of youth!

Fortunately, all of our trips resulted in seeing lots of good friends and family and more importantly, many good photos which we posted on the blog!
